It would be once a week on Friday mornings at 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.  Our classes usually go for 10 weeks, but because our term for the fall is 4 months we are extending our classes to 12 weeks for the benefit of our older adult members.  This position would start immediately for the fall term.  This choir class has been ongoing for a few years.  Material and equipment is available.  The choir instructor directs group at rehearsals and performance to achieve tonal, harmonic balance, dynamics, rhythm, tempo, and utilizing knowledge of conducting techniques.  The choir instructor will select music to suit performance and accommodate talent and ability of group.  The choir instructor will schedule performances and arrange for transportation if needed. Preferred applicant will be an older adult instructor.

The music program at John Black United Church has a long history of choral excellence, with a senior choir and accompanist. It is currently in a transitional stage, with emerging opportunities for celebrating diverse musical gifts as well as honouring more traditional expressions of faith-music.

We are excited about recent developments. In particular, we have developed ‘interest groups’ (including worship and music) and small group ministry (house groups). All of these have potential to enhance the music and worship life of our ministry.

• be a key resource to these groups, and will facilitate the involvement of people in these groups and from the congregation who wish to share their musical gifts during worship.
• be part of a team, working in collaboration with the ministers, church secretary, accompanist.
• use resources that represent a broad range of musical styles and genres, from traditional to contemporary.
