ChoralFest Manitoba

What is ChoralFest?

ChoralFest Manitoba is an annual festival presented by the Manitoba Choral Association. It is non-competitive. ChoralFest provides choirs and conductors an opportunity to work with well-known adjudicators and expert clinicians in a workshop setting to improve their choral skills.

Who can sing at ChoralFest?

ChoralFest is open to ALL choirs. Whether small or large, novice or accomplished; no matter what a choir’s level of expertise, our adjudicators and clinicians work with each group at its own level. A choir that is just starting has as much to gain as does a well-established choir.

Format

For each component (warm-up, performance/adjudication and clinic), Early Years (Elementary School) choirs are allotted 30 minutes; Middle Years (Junior High), Senior Years (High School) and Community Choirs are allotted 30 minutes. Following their scheduled warm-up, choirs perform selections of their own choice. Performances should take not more than half of the allotted time. For example, it is recommended that Early Years sing 2-3 songs; all others sing 3 songs. After performing, choirs are provided with an onstage adjudication. A keepsake photograph is taken by a professional photographer. This is followed by a clinic in another location led by a clinician that heard their performance and adjudication. .

Vocal Jazz

A continuously growing annual event, ChoralFest Vocal Jazz takes place over three days. The vocal jazz days are designed as all-day conferences, where singers and conductors can observe other ensembles. The day begins with an adjudicator led workshop for all participants. There is a noon hour concert each day featuring outstanding soloists and/or ensembles. The day begins with a warm-up for all. Vocal Jazz ensembles are alloted 30 minutes for each component (warm-up, performance and clinic). Choirs will receive a written adjudication of their performance. Choirs are encouraged to spend the day observing and learning. See the Vocal Jazz page for more info.

Concerts

Two concerts are provided to showcase participating choirs and special guests. Don't miss out on either one. Find out more about the Vocal Jazz Concert. Find out more about the Finale Concert.
