Hot Cuban Rhythms abounded
Brandon University Chorale performed their post Cuba Spring Concert on Friday, March 25, 2011 to an enthusiastic audience that included Frances Seaton, MCA President, Robert Neufeld, MCA Executive Director, and Vic Hooper, MCA Marketing and Communications Chair. It was more than worth the trip. The chorale, under the very capable and inspiring direction of Andrée Dagenais, performed several Cuban songs complete with antidotes of their obviously successful tour. It was a wonderful evening of very fine choral singing.
MCO's 'Boreality' project
multi-disciplinary, multi-concert
Wednesday, April 13, 2011
7:30 p.m.
Westminster United Church, Winnipeg MB
Music-making is collaboration, and the Manitoba Chamber Orchestra's next concert is a collabo of boreal proportions. Together with Prairie Fire Press, the MCO put a team of artists to work in a unique studio: the taiga. The words, images and sounds with which they emerged have been used to create new music which will be heard at several Manitoba performances.
Sid Robinovitch composed the music with text by Katherine Bitney and recorded soundscape by Ken Gregory. Photographer Mandy Malazdrewich recorded images and Janine Tschunky managed the project. Scott Yoo conducts the MCO and the Winnipeg Soloists Choir, which is directed by Dr. Elroy Friesen.
