Icons and Incense: The Russian Requiem
Our very popular Icons and Incense series features the North American premiere of the Russian masterpiece Requiem for the Fallen Brothers by Alexander Kastalsky. As the year 2018 marks the 100th anniversary of the end of World War One, we perform this powerful work also called “Russian Requiem.” It was written in 1915 and premiered in 1917 to commemorate the victims of World War One.
Also on the program are Missa Brevis Boreal by Matthew Emery, The Lord is My Shepherd by Sid Robinovitch, and Choral Concerto No. 27 – With my voice I cried out to the Lord by Dmitry Bortniansky.
We welcome soloists Lara Ciekiewicz (soprano) and Matthew Pauls (bass) as well as Winnipeg organist Wes Elias.
