CITY WORKERS in LOVE
DIrector, David Klassen
The CMU Opera and Musical Theatre Workshop presents: CITY WORKERS in LOVE, an opera in one act by Neil Weisensel and Michael Cavanagh
City Workers in Love tells the story of a street repair crew on a typical summer’s day as they strive to help their city and themselves. They repair roads, build relationships, and break for coffee (as required by the collective agreement), all in an effort to achieve ultimate municipal happiness. Along the way they must overcome various obstacles to romantic bliss, from bureaucratic mismanagement to the violent interventions of a malevolent garbage man. Will their bonds of collective camaraderie remain unshakable in the face of insurmountable odds? Will divine intervention save them from a work placement worse than death? Only time will tell, or time and a half if it goes on too long.
