JOB OPPORTUNITY: ASSISTANT DIRECTOR
The Rainbow Harmony Project (RHP) is accepting applications for the position of Assistant Director. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with RHP’s Artistic Director, assisting where needed in the planning, organizing and implementation of rehearsals, concerts and artistic direction of the choir.
Relevant Skills & Experience
Formal training and/or experience in music and choral conducting. A Bachelor of Music is an asset but not required.
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Very good interpersonal and organizational skills
Previous experience working in a team setting
Knowledge, understanding of, and a willingness to learn about the LGBTQ2* community
Willingness to continue learning and growing as a choral director
Tasks & Responsibilities
Attend all RHP rehearsals and concerts
Attend RHP Board meetings, Music Team meetings, and Artistic Direction meetings as requested by the Artistic Director and Board
Prepare and conduct repertoire for rehearsals and concerts as chosen by the Artistic Director
Assist with organization of performance and concert particulars, including but not limited to liaising with venues; coordinating volunteers; arranging for riser transportation, setup and teardown; and assisting with distribution of performance attire
Meet with Artistic Director regularly to discuss topics such as planning, repertoire, concerts, etc.
Communicate to Board, choir members, and production staff as requested
Assist Artistic Director in organizing and maintaining music library and database
Build positive relationships with choir members
Approximately 5-7 hours/week, averaged over the course of the season. Hours will fluctuate throughout each term depending on performances and other events. Some tasks may require more time than indicated below. Approximate time breakdown will be as follows:
Rehearsals: 3 hours/week
Board, Music Team, and Artistic Direction meetings: 0-6 hours/month
Concerts and performances (organization and attendance): 15-20 hours/term
Development of learning tracks (as needed): 3-5 hours/term
Correspondence with choir members: 1-2 hours/month
This position is a one-year term (July 1, 2017 – June 30, 2018), with the possibility of renewal
The Assistant Director will be paid $2,200-$2,800 for the contracted 1-year term, depending on education and experience. Disbursement shall be broken down as deemed appropriate by the Board and the candidate.
An annual performance review will be conducted in conjunction with the Artistic Director and the Board President.
