Prepare for a very cool evening of new choral music at the New Music Festival, organized by the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra. Camerata Nova will be featured twice during a concert entitled Luminous Cry, on Monday, February 2, 2015, at 7:30 p.m.
The first work that Camerata Nova will present is Andrew Balfour's raw piece for choir and cello called Take the Indian, with text taken from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission hearings.
The second is Caroline Shaw's Partita for 8 Voices, which won the Pulitzer Prize for composition a couple of years ago, and earned the choral group who performed it the Grammy in the classical category. This will be the first time any other choir has been given permission to perform the piece. Add to that soprano Sarah Jo Kirsch, Prairie Voices, and it will be a fantastic concert!
