Well wishes to Robert Neufeld

The MCA board and members join together to wish the best of health to our Executive Director, Robert Neufeld, who is recovering from  heart surgery in St. Boniface Hospital.  Robert had surgery on September 21 to repair a heart valve, and now has had a pacemaker installed.  We thank his sister, Sharon, for keeping us posted during this time - and Robert, our thoughts and prayers are with you!

In Robert’s absence, we are so thankful to have a core of experienced and generous volunteers who have stepped in to keep the office and MCA programs running smoothly.  Thanks especially to the efforts of past-president Jan Burdon, and the financial knowledge of Ron Krug, MCA programs and activities continue as usual for the most part.

Current MCA office hours

Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays:  10am – 3pm

Tuesdays: 2pm – 5pm

As always, it is a good idea to call before making a trip to the office, as the office volunteers may be out of the office on business from time to time.

Winnifred Sim book launch

A Candid Coda: Reflections on the Life and Music of Winnifred Sim

Winnifred Sim never auditioned for a job. And yet, she became a nationally recognized organist, accompanist, adjudicator, teacher, conductor and the musical director of CBC Television’s hit show, Hymn Sing, which was broadcast weekly for 30 years. Winnifred is now able to look back on the joys and struggles of the industry and the enrichment that comes from family, faith and a love of music. A Candid Coda not only glimpses Winnifred’s personal life, but also behind the scenes of one of the longest running shows in Canadian television history.
Octogenarian Winnifred Sim enjoyed a 44-year professional career as a piano and organ soloist and accompanist on CBC radio and television. Referred to as a “trailblazer” by the Winnipeg Free Press, Winnifred has been a performer, adjudicator, examiner, and clinician across Canada. She is a published composer of choral anthems and chaired the committee that founded the National Youth Choir in 1984. She is a recipient of the YM-YWCA “Woman of Distinction” award and is listed in the Encyclopedia of Music in Canada and the International Who’s Who in Music. She lives in Winnipeg.

The launch was held Thursday March 27, 8:00 PM Prairie Ink Restaurant, Grant Park Shopping Centre.
